Several members attended the Dedication of the Memorial Garden at the Truro Cathedral on the 6th November and on the following Sunday, as is usual, because ofthe nature of our widespread membership, members attended their own localservices, although the Standard Bearer did attend the main Truro service.
Having been regular Donors to the Cornwall Children’s Hospice, ‘Little Harbour’ since its conception, the Branch was invited to attend a conducted tour of the now completed facility, shortly before the official opening in early December and it was with some misgivings that some twenty of us took up the offer. We were of course somewhat concerned as to what affect it would have on us, but we should not have been concerned as the whole operation is designed to present a happy atmosphere to the children. This has been more than achieved and Cornwall are lucky to have been guided by the experiences of the Devon and Bristol operations. The play rooms, the accommodation, both for patients and their families, and all other services have been set up to provide a very friendly, happy atmosphere and I am sure all of us were better for the experience. At the end of the tour our Treasurer Ron Doney took the opportunity to present the Hospice with a further cheque. Following the visit we retired for lunch at the Polgooth Inn, to finish off a most unusual morning.
It is normal practice not to hold a monthly meeting in December as the usual date falls so close to our Annual Luncheon which this year took place on the 11th December when some fifty or so members and guests attended the Green Lawns Hotel in Falmouth. Our principal guest this year was Brigadier Simon Hill who was accompanied by his wife Barbara. In response to a toast to the Corps and the Association, he brought us completely up to date with events, especially regarding the forthcoming changes at Central Office. We were also pleased to welcome James Humphries, who was not long returned from Afghanistan with 42 Cdo.
A very happy and healthy New Year to all.
